June – Reinstatement Cost Assessments and Developing an Interest in Surveying
June saw a strong focus on Reinstatement Cost Assessments, with instructions covering a number of residential apartment blocks, retirement developments and associated communal facilities.
These projects involved detailed inspections of the buildings and shared areas to establish accurate rebuilding costs for insurance purposes. All assessments were prepared using current BCIS rebuilding cost data, combined with measured floor areas and site-specific information, ensuring each valuation reflected the individual property rather than relying on broad estimates. Accurate reinstatement cost assessments help ensure buildings are appropriately insured and reduce the risk of underinsurance should a significant loss occur.
We also welcomed two work experience students from local schools during the month. They joined us on site to gain an insight into the role of a Chartered Building Surveyor, experiencing a range of inspections and learning about different forms of construction, property defects and the wider built environment. It was great to see their enthusiasm and hopefully provide a useful introduction to the profession.
